Teen boy, 17, dies in medical emergency after police called to boarding school
One of the oldest boarding schools in Scotland is in mourning after a 17-year-old pupil died following a medical emergency.
Paramedics dashed to Loretto School, which is in Musselburgh, East Lothian, on Tuesday evening and the boy was taken to hospital.
He died there later that day, the school said.
The school, which says it is "devastated" by the death, is now working to support pupils and staff, reports Daily Record.
Loretto School, founded in 1827, caters for around 500 pupils aged from early years up to 18.

"The school community is devastated and we are giving his family all the support we can. We have also been working with pupils and staff impacted by this tragic news and that is our focus for now."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.50pm on Tuesday, 2 May 2023, police were called to a school in the Linkfield Road area of Musselburgh following concern for a 17-year-old male. He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died a short time later.
"At this time, there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
