Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has joked that he and Rob McElhenney have something different in store for their players next year after arranging an all-expenses paid trip to America to celebrate their promotion to League Two.

Wrexham narrowly missed out on promotion last season, finishing second behind Stockport County and then losing to Grimsby Town in the play-offs. However, this year they were able to get over the line as they racked up 111 points to win the National League title and secure automatic promotion back to the Football League.

After enjoying a trophy parade last week, the squad flew out to the US to continue their celebrations at hotspots like Hakkasan Night Club and the MGM Grand Hotel. And after Wrexham striker Paul Mullin and midfielder Elliot Lee shared a snap of them partying with former Jersey Shore star Pauly D, who now DJs in Vegas at Marquee, Reynolds could not resist cracking a joke.

Sharing the picture to his Instagram story, Reynolds wrote: "Next year, they're going on a five-day meditation retreat in the Faroe Islands." It comes after goalkeeper Ben Foster, who came out of retirement to help Wrexham seal promotion, revealed that Reynolds and McElhenney had promised a "monster" party if they won the league.

"They've promised us a big deal, though, at the end of the season," Foster told CBS Sports. "They've promised us a monster one at the end of the season. If we get promoted, they're gonna take us away somewhere with a lot of flashing lights."

Mullin, who finished the season as Wrexham's top scorer, joked in an interview with GQ that he "might be dead by the end" of the celebrations. "It became a thing where if we won the league, we'd get a holiday," he said.

"So we're off to Vegas. Ryan and Rob told us to leave our cards at home, they're sorting the lot. They sent us a full itinerary just now. Part of me doesn't want to go, I might be dead by the end of it. But I'd never go to Vegas by my own accord, so I'm buzzing for it."

However, manager Phil Parkinson has not joined the players in the US and simply hopes they "make it back in one piece". He told Sky Sports: "I didn't make the cut for the Vegas trip, unfortunately. We'll leave that one to the lads and hopefully, they will come back in one piece. I'm sure they will."

Ahead of next season, Wrexham are set to return to the US once again for a series of high-profile pre-season games against the likes of Premier League side Chelsea and Manchester United.
