Mirror readers can win a special carer a special prize – the chance to meet singer Tony Christie in the recording studio.

Two others will feature in the video for the track he is performing on – a cover of Thank You for Being a Friend.

And another two carers will get to chat to Tony on Zoom. He is teaming up with the Music for Dementia campaign to release the song on Thank You Day – July 2 – which celebrates unsung heroes.

Tony said: “I want to celebrate the incredible impact carers make in people’s lives. So if you are a carer, or you know someone who is, write in, tell us your stories, and with the help of the Mirror we will tell the world.”

The singer, 80, announced in January that he has dementia.

But Tony – whose hits include (Is This the Way to) Amarillo, and I Did What I Did for Maria – is still performing. He is due to record the song at a studio in London on Sunday, May 21.

If you know someone who is, for example, caring for a loved one with dementia, a child with special needs, or a friend or family member who requires extra support, why not nominate them?

To enter, send your stories, or the stories of the carers you want to nominate to [email protected] by Sunday, May 14. Provide contact details for yourself and the nominee and check they are willing to be entered in the competition and to be photographed and interviewed and are available to be in London on Sunday, May 21, where they could meet Tony and see the song being recorded.

Thank You for Being a Friend was originally a hit for Andrew Gold in 1978 before a version was used as the theme tune for 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls.
