With the FIFA 23 Team of the Season (TOTS) promo in full flow, you may notice that there will be no TOTW 27 squad released in Ultimate Team this week.

Since FIFA 10, Team of the Week promos have been a staple in the popular Ultimate Team game mode, with EA Sports awarding the best-performing players from the last week with a special upgraded TOTW player item. The iconic black and gold card used to be one of the most sought-after items in Ultimate Team, but with the volume of promos released in the last few FIFA titles, including FIFA 23, TOTW items have lost their value towards the end of a FIFA cycle.

Gone are the days of paying hundreds of thousands of coins for an 83-rated in-form Theo Walcott in FIFA 23, with this card likely to cost no more than the discard price in FIFA 23. And, EA has noticed the lack of relevance for TOTW squads, with their releases being halted early for the first time in FIFA 22.

And now, EA has done the same in FIFA 23, but even earlier than before.

Why there's no FIFA 23 TOTW 27 squad

Like in FIFA 22, EA has now stopped releasing TOTW squads in FIFA 23, with TOTW 26 the final TOTW squad released. In fact, TOTW 26 was officially the final TOTW squad ever to be released in a EA Sports FIFA game, with EA shortly set to move on to their new game EA Sports FC.

Team of the Week releases are likely to continue in EA FC, though we won't be surprised to see a major rejig of how the promo works. Let's be honest, apart from being used as requirements in SBCs, not many FUT players have any need whatsoever for TOTW items unless it's one of the big ones like Kylian Mbappe.

And, with TOTW players featuring as Player Picks in the FUT Champions rewards, it sometimes doesn't feel worth the effort to play all 20 games, just to earn an 84-rated TOTW you'll never use. Because of the TOTS promo which is now underway in FUT, FUT Champions rewards have been updated, with Player Picks now including TOTS items rather than TOTW, showing once again that at this point of the game, they aren't needed.

In FIFA 23, we are getting new promos every single week, with the power curve and meta constantly updating. TOTW items are useful in the first few weeks following the game's release, but the promo needs an update desperately, with 90% of in-forms outdated and useless after a few months.
