Redfall is a co-op shooter in the vein of games like Borderlands, with its own cast of unique vampire hunters to play as, each with their own batch of powers and abilities at their disposal.

In Redfall, four heroes are all stuck in the fictional island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, which has the problem that so many other small towns have – a vampire infestation. Luckily this foursome are all equipped with their own skills and specialities that make dealing with those garlic haters a bit easier. From the telekinetic Layla who is just trying to pay off her student debt, to the veteran sniper Jacob who was forced to team up with this group after his security force team was separated.

Redfall's release time is rapidly approaching, which leaves us with the biggest challenge these types of coop games have: who do you pick? Luckily it's confirmed that you can all play as the same character, so no need to argue with your friends over who gets to be the sniper (although I would imagine the game is probably balanced around all four classes being present versus four of one).

Redfall characters explained

Layla Ellison

Layla participated in some medical trials in Redfall in order to pay off her student debt, with the unintended consequence of her being given telekinetic powers. Layla's three skills are as follows:

  • Lift – Layla launches herself into the air for easy traversal or a swift escape, you can also launch enemies with this move when it's upgraded.
  • Vampire Ex-Boyfriend – Layla can summon her ex Jason who just happens to be a vampire (presumably he wasn't beforehand but we won't judge). Jason can deal damage to your enemies and heal your team during combat.
  • Umbrella – Layla can summon a telekinetic umbrella which blocks enemy attacks while doubling as a conduit for offensive psychic powers

Layla is perfect for those players who want to get into the nitty gritty thanks to her psychic powers.

Jacob Boyer

Jacob is an ex-military sharpshooter whose skillset revolves around stealth and ranged battles. Jacob's three skills are as follows:

  • Cloak – Jacob cloaks himself to become invisible to his enemies. This skill can be upgraded to apply the effect to his teammates.
  • Raven – Jacob can send his raven out into the field, marking enemies along the way so that Jacob can find opponents without moving a muscle
  • Heartstopper – Jacob summons a supernatural-infused sniper rifle which can mark enemies and dispatch them in quick succession (think Red Dead Redemption's Deadeye mechanic).

Jacob is a perfect pick for players who don't fancy a direct encounter while also wanting to focus on damage over support.

Remi De La Rosa

Remi is a combat engineer, with a moveset that focuses on protection, distraction and her robot pal Bribón. Remi's three skills are as follows:

  • Siren – Remi controls Bribón who will cause a distraction, causing enemies to follow and deal damage to him, with upgrades allowing him to fight back.
  • C4 Charge – Remi can throw a C4 at enemies and surfaces and pick the perfect time to make it go boom to take out the most vampires.
  • Mobilize – Remi creates a recovery point to heal all allies within a specific range, with both healing and range being improved through upgrades.

Remi is the quintessential support character in Redfall, perfect for those selfless team players.

Devinder Crousley

Dev is a cryptozoologist (zoologist but for cryptids, not the other crypto) and tech influencer who found his way to Redfall, in pursuit of mythical creatures: Dev's three skills are as follows:

  • Translocate – Dev will throw a device allowing him to teleport to another location, which helps him sneak around the battlefield
  • Arc Javelin – Dev will throw a javelin which produces an electrical current which deals damage to multiple enemies at once
  • Blacklight – Dev carries around a blacklight which stops vampires in their tracks, allowing the team to deal massive damage to the frozen enemy

Dev seems like an all-around solid choice for anyone, if you like to tinker with gadgets, Dev is your guy.

And that's all four of the heroes available Redfall, all four seem to have a solid kit available so I can't tell you which is best. Since multiple versions of the same character are allowed I would recommend trying all four regardless to see which one sticks.
