Sheringham agrees with Neville on Liverpool moment that sums up Tottenham season
Teddy Sheringham and Gary Neville both believe that Diogo Jota’s winning goal for Liverpool on Sunday summed up the current mess at Tottenham.
Jota netted the winner in the 94th minute at Anfield – just seconds after Richarlison appeared to have earned Ryan Mason’s side a point from 3-0 down. The Liverpool striker seized on a weak back-pass from Lucas Moura to find the bottom corner and send Tottenham home disappointed.
Spurs found themselves 3-0 down inside 15 minutes after goals from Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. It sparked fears of another miserable away day following the 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle the previous weekend.
But Harry Kane pulled a goal back before half-time and strikes from Son Heung-min and Richarlison brought them level in dramatic fashion. Their efforts were all in vain as Jota scored the decisive goal to send Liverpool past Spurs into fifth in the Premier League table.
Neville was on co-commentary for Sky Sports and was quick to lay into Spurs, labelling the goal "the most Tottenham thing that you will ever see". The former Manchester United defender had been hugely critical of Spurs all game and Sheringham backed up his point.

Asked by Lord Ping if he agreed with the comment, Sheringham said: “Without a doubt. I completely agree with Gary’s comments. I think Tottenham have lacked leadership all season.

“The leadership in the club is non-existent and, I think that lack of leadership has filtered down from the boardroom to the team. Tottenham don’t look like a team at the moment – everyone is out there trying to do their own thing on the pitch.”
Spurs have not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since beating Chelsea 2-0 on February 26 and they have now gone six games without a win away from home in the league. They have conceded 15 goals in the past four games, under Mason and the previous interim boss Cristian Stellini, and former Spurs striker Sheringham was not impressed.
“I’m not surprised that Tottenham lost,” he added. “Tottenham are a little all over the place. It was nice to see them fight back from being 3-0 down. They showed a bit of fighting spirit, which is the minimum you would expect with Ryan Mason taking over the reins last week.
“He knows a lot of these players and they would have wanted to put in a performance for him. I just see a club in disarray. Liverpool have been very inconsistent this season, but they were still good enough at home to take advantage of a team in trouble like Tottenham.”
Mason was furious with the decision by referee Paul Tierney not to send off Jota for a high foot on Oliver Skipp in the second half. Jota was shown a yellow card after catching Skipp in the forehead with his boot.
"Honestly, it's probably the clearest red card you will see on the football pitch,” he said. "I need an explanation. It endangered the opponent, Skipp needs stitches and Jota has scored the goal when he shouldn't be on the pitch."
