Corrie's Claire Sweeney's unruly character will cause major problems for Tyrone

Claire Sweeney has teased her Coronation Street character's arrival will cause major problems for Tyrone Dobbs.

The soap legend has been cast as Cassie, the mother of Weatherfield mechanic Tyrone Dobbs. He (played by Alan Halsall) believed she was dead, having been told by Evelyn (Dame Maureen Lipman) that his mother had passed away.

She will starting filming for the ITV soap tomorrow, and ahead of her debut later in June, Claire has revealed a little more about her character - and teased there is chaos ahead for the family as Cassie drops in with some huge problems for Evelyn and Tyrone.

Claire detailed more about her Corrie character (ITV)

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, she said: "Tyrone was always led to believe that Jackie was his mum and she wasn't his mum. And then he was told that his mum is dead, so that is the twist. I turn up on the Cobbles and I'm a bit unruly.

"I've got a few problems, some major problems - but what will happen?"

Claire previously described her role on Coronation Street as a dream of hers, as she admitted she has been a huge fan of the soap for years and always said she wanted a role on the ITV programme.

Speaking previously about her new role, she said: "Even though I’ve been lucky enough to have enjoyed an amazingly varied career for nearly 40 years - being cast in Coronation Street is, to me, better than being cast in a Hollywood movie!

"I’ve watched it all my life and can’t quite believe that I’ll now be stepping onto those famous cobbles myself. I was really nervous when I got the scripts to audition as this show means so much to me and my family and this is Corrie gold."

She added: "I was beyond thrilled and very grateful when I got the call that Iain MacLeod is trusting me to play Tyrone's Mum and work alongside one of my heroes, Dame Maureen Lipman. Cassie is a character who is definitely going to make an impact - I just hope the audience will enjoy watching her as much as I'm going to be enjoying playing her!"

Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod teased the start of a "tumultuous" time for Tyrone.

"Claire bowled us over in her audition and the scenes with her, Tyrone and Evelyn will be electric. Her arrival will mark the start of a tumultuous time for Tyrone and the family and her impact will be felt in the weeks and months that follow," he added.
