Amber Heard makes brief Aquaman 2 cameo after petition to axe her from role

Amber Heard is set to return to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as Mera after there had been calls for her role to be cut from the movie.

The actress previously denied claims that she was being axed from the film but footage shown at CinemaCon reveals that she will reprise her role alongside Jason Momoa.

Her role in the movie was under question following her highly publicised defamation case with her former husband, Johnny Depp, last year which gripped the world.

Now, it has been confirmed that Amber has officially made her return to the screen although her role is far from a leading job.

It's claimed that Amber's "cameo" role in the movie appears during an "underwater battle scene", according to Insider.

However, it is reported that her character has no dialogue in the trailer, although reports indicate that she was wearing a new white suit.

But while her cameo role in the trailer has a minimal role, it's unclear whether her character will have a greater role once the movie is released later this year.

During her case, Amber stated: "I fought really hard to stay in the movie, they didn't want to include me in the film.

"I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another."

As the dramatic American court case progressed, a Change.org petition to have Heard axed from her role in the movie reached more than 4.6million signatures.

In June 2022, a rumour claimed that Amber hadn't been brought back to step into her role and that bosses were in the process of recasting the position.

During her trial, DC-Films boss Walter Hamada testified and claimed that they had debated whether to recast the character due to Amber's lack of "natural chemistry" with Jason Momoa.

He added: "Editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the movie, there was a concern it took a lot of effort to get there."

Hamada went on to deny allegations that her character, Mera, had her role reduced during filming due to the defamation case.

But following initial claims that she was set to be axed, a spokesperson for Heard commented: "The rumour mill continues as it has from day one - inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane."
