Ubisoft has confirmed that the XDefiant closed beta has been extended, following a successfuk stint that's seen over one million players take part already.

The closed XDefiant beta officially went live on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on April 13, in what is Ubisoft's latest attempt to get a foothold in the FPS genre, which has long been dominated by Call of Duty. The fast-paced arena shooter features factions of characters from a range of Ubisoft titles including Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon Phantoms, The Division, Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs 2.

The game's official Twitter account tweeted that over one million players participated in the closed XDefiant beta, as of last Thursday April 20, and there's no denying that it's been pretty well received overall; some players have even dubbed XDefiant as a 'COD killer'. In my XDefiant beta impressions piece, I thought it was more comparable to Valorant than Call of Duty, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless.

After requests from the community, Ubisoft has now confirmed that the closed XDefiant beta is getting extended – here's all you need to know.

There was talk last week that the closed XDefiant beta could be extended, after players were complaining about server issues. Happily. the community's wishes have now been fulfilled, with players on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC able to access the closed XDefiant beta for a little bit longer.

The XDefiant beta is currently closed, so unless you have a code, you can't just drop in. But don't worry, there are a few ways to get one before it ends.

The easiest way to get into the XDefiant beta is by signing up over on the official website and waiting patiently by your inbox for an invite although chances of making it in now are relatively slim. Another option is via Twitch Drops for the XDefiant beta. You can fund out more on the dedicated Ubisoft page.

Lastly, you can get an invite to the XDefiant beta from anyone you're friends with on Ubisoft Connect. They need to have received a beta invite themselves, which comes with the option to invite up to five friends. Given that the game is a 6v6 arena shooter, those additional invites are a must to give players the best experience possible. You'll need to be on the same platform as your benevolent benefactor to cash in on their invites.

The XDefiant release date hasn't been confirmed yet, although it's speculated to launch this year. While the closed XDefiant beta is limited to PC and current-gen consoles, the full game is set to launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and the Amazon Luna.

It's likely that we'll see an XDefiant open beta going live before launch, and given the huge amount of players the closed beta has attracted, plus the fans on Twitter begging for one, it would make sense from a technical standpoint and to continue to drum up interest in the game. We'll keep you posted on more XDefiant beta news as it comes.
