Ben Foster sent clear message as Ryan Reynolds signing hints at Wrexham plan

Wrexham fans celebrated promotion back to the Football League on Saturday - but that didn't stop them from making their feelings clear to veteran goalkeeper Ben Foster.

After an agonising 15 year exile, Wrexham will play League Two football next year after they clinched the National League title with a record 110 points on Saturday evening courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood at the Racecourse Ground.

The visitors took the lead after just 43 seconds courtesy of Lee Ndlovu, but Elliot Lee restored parity in the 15th minute for Phil Parkinson's side. And with promotion hanging in the balance, star striker Paul Mullin stepped up to the mantle with a second-half brace to spark jubilant scenes in north Wales.

Foster, 40, joined the celebrations as fans flooded the pitch to celebrate promotion, but it's currently unclear as to whether or not the shot-stopper will play any part for the club in League Two next season.

The former England international was lured out of retirement to answer an SOS call from Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson last month and has made a big impact at the club, who handed him his first senior start in football.

Foster only penned a short-team contract until the end of the season - but he was constantly serenaded by Wrexham fans during the second-half of Saturday's promotion showdown in a clear sign that they want him to stay on for another year.

The veteran has previously been coy on his intentions about staying on beyond the end of the current campaign. He has previously that he "didn't have a clue" whether he would continue playing, but speaking after promotion had been confirmed on Saturday, he refused to rule out a U-turn, teasing: "This club is different. That is very special."

Wrexham are back in the Football League after a 15-year absence

He had stressed earlier this month that Wrexham were the "only club" he would have considered playing for again in an interview with ESPN after the dramatic win over promotion rivals Notts County, where he saved a penalty in the final minute.

"I was really happy having retired, but I would only come out of retirement for Wrexham - genuinely only for Wrexham. The reason why I came back is because I know the club and I do owe so much to them for what they did to me. They give me that springboard to start my career and show what I can do. And then I got the move to Man United off the back of my initial run here. So it's where it all started for me."

Wrexham have already amassed a record points total of 110 but could yet improve that tally when they face relegated Torquay in their final game of the season next week.
