A 14-year-old girl has been slashed with a pocket knife outside school gates, police have said, and an 18-year-old man has been arrested.

Police were called to reports of a knifing incident outside Ernesford Grange Community Academy on Princethorpe Way, in Coventry, just before 3.30pm this afternoon.

Ernesford Grange Community Academy has confirmed there was an incident at the school, reports Coventry Live.

Multiple reports of an incident at the school emerged from worried parents on social media late this afternoon. At 5.45pm, police revealed a girl had been slashed with a knife.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after a 14-year-old girl was left with minor injuries after being slashed with a pocket knife by a teenager outside Ernesford Grange Academy on Princethorpe Way, Coventry, shortly before 3.30pm today (Feb 10).

"The girl didn’t require hospital treatment. We have arrested an 18-year-old man who is currently in custody.

Ernesford Grange Community Academy in Princethorpe Way, Binley, is a secondary school and sixth form. It was rated 'good' in its latest Ofsted report in 2019 and is a member of the Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust (MAT).
