'The time for excuses from Rishi Sunak and the Tories is over'

A once thriving, prosperous Great Britain now has economic growth worse than that of war-torn, sanctioned Russia, which is an absolutely damning indictment of Tory mismanagement.

No amount of propaganda from Rishi Sunak can hide the dismal failure of 13 years of Tory misrule when plummeting living standards are the result of their catastrophic mistakes.

The International Monetary Fund’s confirmation that Britain will go backwards this year then grow only feebly in 2024 is confirmation that the only G7 economy still smaller than before the pandemic is in a sorry mess.

Covid hit every nation so it is no excuse. The Tories refuse to accept that austerity was self-defeating and Brexit an economic own goal.

Britain deserves better and that means a fresh start under a Labour Government headed by Keir Starmer.

Bad business

The dismissal of Tony Danker as head of the CBI is a crisis for a voice of business which either reforms or dies.

His departure after a formal complaint about his personal conduct became unavoidable when it was followed by a slew of separate allegations from women at the CBI.

The accusation that a CBI preaching about respect and fairness in the workplace wasn’t practising what it preached is so toxic the organisation’s future is in doubt.

Danker’s shock that he was sacked suggests he was out of touch. It was inconceivable he could cling to his role, whether he was cleared or not over the charges levelled against him.

The CBI has a distinguished history. It must earn a future.

A high SpyQ

Huge congratulations to Anne Keast-Butler, GCHQ’s first female director.

The Queen of Spies has her work cut out, but her role as No2 at MI5 and an Oxford maths degree make her selection add up.
