Stereophonics' Kelly Jones says he dreams of late bandmate '5 times a week'

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has revealed he dreams of his late bandmate Stuart Cable five times a week.

The drummer was tragically found dead at his home in South Wales in 2010, aged 40.

Kelly, 48, started playing in bands with Stuart in 1987 before they formed the Stereophonics, which went onto sell millions of records.

Speaking about the loss of his friend, Kelly told the Help Musicians podcast, I Never Thought It Would Happen: "Stuart turns up in my dreams at least five times a week.

"It's bizarre to this day. We lived on the same street all our life. He was like another big brother to me really."

An inquest in 2010 heard Stuart died following a three-day drinking session. He was survived by his son, brother and mother.

Recalling the tragedy, Kelly said: "I'd like to say [Stuart's death] was a surprise, but it many ways it wasn't, because he was that kind of character. I didn't think he was ever going to get to be an old man."

Kelly admits Stuart's death 'hit him hard', but said the drummer's son still comes to his gigs and while not looking like his dad, shares some of the friend's mannerisms.

The singer is now working on tracks with his new band Far From Saints, who will release their debut album later this year.

Speaking about the group's ‘Americana country vibe’, Kelly said: "I've always wanted to make a Nashville-type record. I was brought up with Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and the Eagles. So it's always been in my DNA."

The Stereophonics bagged eight UK Official Album Chart Number 1s, including their breakthrough album Performance and Cocktails in 1999.

The band consists of Kelly, Richard Jones (bass guitar, harmonica, backing vocals), Adam Zindani (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Jamie Morrison (drums, percussion) and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboards).

When asked how the musicians feel about his new project, Kelly said: "I've got a great relationship with the boys in the band. But it’s good to have that freedom.

"I think sometimes I feel quite guilty, you know, doing things outside of the band that I'm in and think ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ But you learn things from being on your own stage that you can take back to the band.”

The Stereophonics most recently supported Pearl Jam at BST in London's Hyde Park.
