Ben Foster rugby tackled in expletive-ridden celebrations after Wrexham heroics

Ben Foster was joyously hauled to the ground by reserve goalkeeper Mark Howard after his match-winning penalty save on Monday afternoon.

Foster's Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, defeated Notts County 3-2 at the Racecourse to go three points clear of their promotion rivals at the top of the table with a game in hand. The Welsh club need just seven points from their final four National League fixtures to secure promotion.

Notts County seemed destined to snatch a point when the ball was handled in Wrexham's box, but Foster produced a stunning stop to deny Cedwyn Scott from the penalty spot. As such, the former England goalkeeper was lauded as Wrexham's hero at full-time.

Foster, 40, has become a social media star in recent years after gaining more than a million subscribers on YouTube. He creates content by using GoPro camera to record footage from his net, with the National League allowing him to film the big game.

As Foster went to retrieve his GoPro at full-time, he was hugged by Wrexham's talisman Paul Mullin and they both spoke into the camera. Foster then made his way to Wrexham's in-house media team and shouted, "Oh My God! Oh My God!"

At that point, Howard, who was on the bench on Monday afternoon's, hugged Foster and shouted, "[You] b******! I f****** love ya!"

Howard then wrestled Foster to the ground in elation before they rolled around for a few seconds and Wrexham's hero got back to his feet. It was a moment which captured the delight and relief in Wrexham's dressing room, as they chase a return to League Two.

With just one team earning automatic promotion from the National League, Wrexham will need to win the title to regain their English Football League membership. They are enjoying a sensational campaign, picking up 100 points before Monday afternoon's game.

But with Notts County achieving the same tally, Wrexham found themselves second in the table heading into their huge win. It was imperative they started the match well, but Notts County took the lead when John Bostock's free kick found the net.

Paul Mullin equalised just after the break before Jacob Mendy made it 2-1 to Wrexham. Kyle Cameron then made it 2-2, but Wrexham restored their lead through Elliot Lee. That left Notts County scrambling for an equaliser to deny Phil Parkinson's side.

It seemed as if the visitors were going to thwart Wrexham when the referee pointed to spot during the final minute, but Foster, who signed a short-team deal last month, had other ideas. It was a moment which confirmed the veteran's Premier League class.

"You just dive and hope for the best," Foster told BT Sport at full-time. "If you go the right way and get your hand on it, you'd like to think you'll save it."
