Kyler Murray issues remarkable video showing post-op injury recovery
Arizona Cardinals star quarterback Kyler Murray has released a remarkable video showing off his post-op injury recovery.
Murray, 25, had his 2022 NFL campaign cut short after tearing his ACL. The Cardinals ace suffered the injury during the first quarter of Arizona's "Monday Night Football" matchup with the New England Patriots in Week 14 and had to be replaced by veteran Colt McCoy.
Murray’s injury wasn’t inflicted by an opponent. It was, in fact, non-contact with the tear occurring after rolling out to his right. And to make matters worse for Murray and his Cardinals teammates, they lost the game 13-27.
It’s unclear whether Murray will make it back in time for Week 1, but the quarterback has posted an encouraging post-op injury workout, where he is carrying a significant weight load. Murray running and making cuts will be the biggest indicator as to how comfortable he is ahead of a return to action.
Murray’s return will see him step into a different environment with the Cardinals undergoing massive changes in his absence. The franchise parted ways with head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim stepped down.
Former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is the new head coach and Monti Ossenfort is the new GM. Murray will also not have a homework clause in his contract after it was removed following backlash. The clause required Murray to spend at least four hours per week on his own, without distraction, to study game material.
Cardinals right tackle Kelvin Beachum said last month about Murray needing “to grow up a little bit”, something ex-GM Keim, who handed the quarterback his big-money contract with the clause, echoed.
“He still needs to grow. [Beachum’s comments are] not slanted toward [Murray’s] character,” Keim told the arizonasports.com podcast. “He’s not a bad guy. He’s a good kid, has a good smile, has a nice way about him. I think it’s like anything: Guys have to continue to learn what it’s going to take to be great. Does he know what Tom Brady and Peyton Manning know of what it takes to be great? No. Does he work?
"He does work. I think it’s just that side of the game — the film study, the attention to detail part that he can continue to improve upon, and I think he will. Kyler’s a proud guy, man. He doesn’t want to lose and he doesn’t want to let people down.”
