Terror as six-year-old girl 'plunges into foaming septic tank' at wildlife park

A six-year-old girl reportedly fell into a 12ft foaming septic tank while visiting a wildlife park in Yorkshire.

The child is said to have fallen into the tank at Thorp Perrow, Bedale, North Yorkshire, on Saturday.

It has been claimed that the tank's opening was concealed by foam and the girl was heard screaming for help.

Witness Sarah Cobb said she saw the child "clinging to the sides" before being pulled out from the tank.

She added the girl ran towards the pile of foam, which was next to the gift shop at the park, despite being told by her mum not to go there.

Ms Cobb told BBC News: "The next thing, we hear screaming and only her head is visible. She was clinging on to the sides of this drain.

"It appeared to us as though the foam had lifted the cover off.

"It was absolutely horrendous. She wouldn't stop crying. This is a family attraction, it should not have happened."

Ms Cobb said other kids were seen running towards the foam before the area was cordoned off by staff.

She added that the girl was taken to the hospital after developing a sore throat but is now believed to have recovered.

A spokesperson for Thorp Perrow said an investigation is ongoing and in the meantime the area will remain closed off.
