A Brit woman has been hospitalised in Beirut following attempted rape while out jogging by the waterfront.

Lebanese forces arrested a Syrian who harassed and tried to rape the Brit in Beirut last week.

The unnamed woman had been running by the capital's waterfront when the man ambushed her in front a children's amusement centre in the Biel area.

According to a statement issued by the Internal Security Forces on Monday, the attack was reported by a woman and the arrested Syrian citizen "M, M" has confessed his crime.

The Lebanese Internal Security Forces released a photograph of the unnamed alleged attacker, adding they had arrested the suspect for "attempted rape."

A statement released on Twitter said: "The Information Division at record speed arrested the suspect of the assault and attempted rape of a British woman in the waterfront area in Beirut near KIDS MONDO, which took place on 3/29/2023. The investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent judiciary."

The bicycle on which "M, M" was riding at the time of the attack has also been confiscated.

Lebanese security forces claim the perpetrator told officers that "for about eight months he has been chasing girls with the aim of harassing them and touching their bodies, specifically girls of foreign nationalities."

FCDO Spokesperson said: "We are supporting a British woman following an incident in Beirut and are in contact with the local authorities”.
