Billionaire businessman Dozy Mmobuosi is confident of completing his £90million buyout of debt-ridden Sheffield United.

The Nigerian tech entrepreneur, 43, is worth £6billion. He is waiting for the EFL to complete its owners and directors’ test but is already planning for a bright future at Bramall Lane.

“I’ve put forward a detailed plan with the EFL and the club,” he said. “And I’m working closely with them to get things moving. It is my money. And I have actually made a deposit. I have a way to ensure that the club is run efficiently and results are gotten.”

Mmobuosi maintained he was only speaking out to reassure fans after doubt was cast on his companies: “I did not expect this leak to happen,” he said.

"I was hoping that this would just get approved and then this happens. But this reality has come and I’m just facing it.”

Mmobuosi has plans for fan representation on the Sheffield United board and to invest further if the team currently second in the Championship under Paul Heckingbottom makes it to the Premier League.

“Trust me, I’m studying that,” he said. “I have a team studying and reporting to me.

“We are also taking our time to watch and look closely and when the time comes, definitely the fans and you will be the first to know.”

Sheffield United are enjoying a superb season under boss Paul Heckingbottom. Winners of 12 of their last 16 games in all competitions, they sit second in the Championship promotion places, ten points clear of the play-off spots.

United will also host Spurs in the FA Cup Fifth Round after ending Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham dream on Tuesday night.

However, the Blades are operating under a transfer embargo, which will prevent them buying a player for the next 18 months unless they win promotion back to the Premier League.
