Suzy Eddie Izzard said Paul O'Grady 'lived his life well' as she paid tribute to the late star.

Lily Savage icon Paul died 'unexpectedly' on Tuesday at the age of 67, his husband announced.

Friends, fans, and celebrities have been paying tribute to the TV star - who has been a huge part of many people's lives for many decades.

During her appearance on The One Show, comedian Eddie - who recently changed her name to Suzy - discussed Paul's incredible life and fruitful career.

Speaking to host Alex Jones and Ronan Keating, Eddie said: "Well, you know, another LGBTQ person whose work was about being funny, being attitudinal, playing Lily savage as a character and then being himself as Paul O'Grady had the same attitude and he just did his career lived his life.

"He Did charity work, very great work with pets as well. And that's a wonderful thing that he did and his sexuality had nothing to do with it. It's just that he was that person.

"And he was open and honest about it. And then this world of some people decided to lie left, right and centre, it's really nice when people come out and be open and honest.

Eddie continued: "He was nominated for the Perry award in the same year I was back in 1991. So I always say one life live it well, and he did."

Earlier this month, the comedian announced she will be going by Suzy Eddie Izzard after wanting to change her name since she was 10.

The 61-year-old shared the news during a question and answer session with Matt Forde on The Political Party podcast, according to reports.

As she shared her name change, she revealed she would be keeping the name Eddie so "people can choose" and "can't make a mistake".

Speaking on the podcast Eddie, who began using the pronouns she and her in 2020, explained: "I’m Eddie.

"There’s another name I’m going to add in as well, which is Suzy, which I wanted to be since I was 10. I’m going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard, that’s how I’m going to roll."
