Family Ties' Justine Bateman hits out at obsession over her 'old face'
Actress Justine Bateman has confessed she has ignored Hollywood's beauty standards and is embracing her wrinkles.
The sister of Hollywood star Jason Bateman is best known for her role in Family Ties. In the 1980s sitcom, she starred alongside Michael J Fox and has stayed in the limelight since her teen years.
Now aged 57, Justine had confessed she didn't realise there was such an obsession about how her looks have changed over the years before she had Googled her own name.
She explained that she wanted to "do a little research" on herself and was surprised to see autocomplete fill in the words "looks old" after she typed her name.
Speaking to 60 Minutes Australia, she said: "I googled my name Justine Bateman, and an autocomplete came up which said 'looks old,' and I was like, 'What!'"
Back To The Future's Michael J Fox driven to alcoholism by Parkinson'sShe continued: "And I was only 42 at the time …and I was like ‘what?’ And I looked at the pictures that they had as evidence and I couldn’t see what they were talking about."
When she was later asked if she thought people could think ageing was "beautiful" she confidently said: "I just don't give a s***. I think I look rad, I think my face represents who I am. I like it."
She admitted she likes looking her age and said she feels said for those who choose to use Botox and fillers in a bit to prevent wrinkles.
"They're just not enjoying life," she said.
"I feel sad that they are distracted from the things they’re meant to do in life, with this consuming idea that they’ve got to fix their face before anything else can happen."
And her message to those listening: "Forget about your face!"
The actress urged people to get rid of the fear of getting wrinkles as it won't stop opportunities from arising.
However, she was open in the fact that she had thought about it herself.
"You can certainly look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, if I just had like a lower facelift I would get rid of this skin that catches the light, and then I could have that operation where you go into the eyelid, or you know take some of the skin out and this that’s hanging over now, over the eyelid, you can get that removed,'" she continued.
However, she has no interest in ever getting plastic surgery.
