Two dogs were savagely killed by a swarm of killer bees during a freak attack after becoming agitated, it is claimed.

A pet owner was left distraught on Thursday morning after a swarm of Africanised honey bees attacked two dogs and a group of people in Texas, US.

The attack was described as "highly unusual" as bees are never aggressive unless they feel threatened or provoked.

Devon Johnston, from R9 Hive & Honey, told Valley Central: "Typically Africanised bees have a memory of three days.

“So when they get disturbed by someone using a lawn mower or some loud noise, they are going to be on high alert for three days.”

She believes the bees were agitated which led to them running after the dogs who were in a fenced patio.

Ms Johnston added: "“The [dog’s owner] took me into the residence where the dogs were and there were hundreds of dead bees in the patio.

"He had sliding glass doors and there were muddy paw prints and even a little bit of blood from where the dogs were desperately trying to get into the house.”

The bee hive was removed and no other injuries were reported.

The freak incident comes after a mum-of-two was savagely killed by her neighbour's Great Danes in front of her young son.

Kristin Potter, 38, went to feed her neighbour's dogs last Thursday in Centre Township, Pennsylvania, US, when she was suddenly mauled.

Her son ran for help but his mum was randomly attacked by two of the three dogs she had gone to feed, according to Perry County Coroner Robert Ressler.

Emergency services were called to the scene but were unable to enter the home until animal control entered and put down the dogs.

The two dogs involved in the attack were later put down by a vet.

Kristen's son witnessed some of the horrendous attack but had ran off to seek help.

The coroner said: "He was present at the scene, but I don't think he was there for much of it. As soon as he saw the dogs starting to attack his mother, he ran across the road to have his brother call 911."

Wendy Sabathne, owner of the dogs, revealed she's in utter "disbelief" following the mauling.

She said: "I'm heartbroken, I'm in shock, I'm in disbelief and I just want to die. I can't believe this happened."
