Epic Games has announced the release date for Fortnite’s new Creative 2.0 update, which finally brings the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) to the game.

After a series of delays from its original targeted release in December 2022, Fortnite’s Creative 2.0 update has been announced to finally arrive next week, on Wednesday, March 22. Epic Games took to its Fortnite Creative Twitter account @FNCreate to make the announcement earlier today.

The Unreal Editor For Fortnite (UEFN) promises to be the next evolution of the pre-existing creative mode that exists within Fortnite, allowing players to create experiences in a dedicated program, in which they have access to a series of creative tools, in a style similar to the one Epic Games uses to develop the game itself. Users also have options like importing custom assets and animations. This is opposed to the current creative mode in which you are controlling a character in-game as you create with pre-existing assets.

The Epic Games Store page for the UEFN also went live alongside this announcement and goes into a bit more detail than the cryptic tweet. It promises “a whole new world of options for producing and publishing games and experiences for Fortnite that can be enjoyed by millions of players”.

Creative Spark

Even as someone who primarily plays the no-frills Zero Build mode, I’m psyched about this update - and the fact that it's coming so soon after Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2's arrival. The types of things that Fortnite creators are making with the standard Creative tools are already extremely impressive. I’ve spent many a late night with pals playing a game of Prop Hunt in recreations of the house from The Simpsons or Gun Game in the Groznyj Grad military base from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. So seeing what people will be able to do with these upgraded tools is an exciting prospect.

I’m not the only person on board; fans quickly took to Twitter to express their excitement for the upcoming update. Fortnite content creator and leaker @Jorge_Most_ said in a tweet “This will take Fortnite to a new level, and it will change the game forever, I can't wait”. Fortnite fan Video Producer and Animator @SirDustyDirks also seems to be as excited as we are, stating “I have been preparing for this moment for literal years”.

This update gives creatives almost limitless potential for new Fortnite content, and makes the future of the game even more exciting. Fortnite is continuing to be an unstoppable force, with a live service model that almost every AAA game is trying – and failing – to mimic.
