Pret A Manger is to give staff their third pay rise in 12 months next month.

The sandwich and coffee chain is to hike pay for team members from £10.30 to £10.60, or from £11.55 to £11.90, depending on location.

Barista pay will increase from between £10.85 to £11.20, or £12.50 to £12.85, again depending on location and experience.

Workers can also earn a "mystery shopper" bonus.

The pay rises will come into effect from April with 7,870 UK shop staff set to benefit.

The increase puts the rate of pay above the National Living Wage, which is rising to £10.42 an hour for those over the age of 23.

It follows two previous pay rises at Pret, which happened in April and December 2022.

Pret UK's interim managing director Guy Meakin said: "We're proud to be making another significant investment in our people's success and wellbeing.

"Whether it's paying above the National Minimum Wage, providing career development opportunities, or leading the industry on barista pay, we're committed to making Pret a rewarding and supportive place to work for all our teams and paying the best we can afford to.

"Our people work incredibly hard to make Pret such a well-loved place on the high street, and we wanted to thank them for their continued energy and commitment.

"As the cost of living continues to rise, we hope this latest increase in pay, and our expanded benefits package, goes some way in providing further support for our hardworking teams."

Pret a Manger isn't the only company increasing pay ahead of the rise in the National Living Wage.

Marks and Spencer yesterday announced it will give more than 40,000 store workers a pay rise from April.

Supermarket customer assistant staff will see their hourly pay increase from £10.20 to £10.90.

Employees in London stores will see their hourly wages upped from £11.25 to £12.05.

The hourly wage of a store worker in Tesco is going up from £10.30 to £11.02 from April 2.

Tesco will also increase its “additional skills payment” for shift leaders to £2.26, taking their hourly wage to £13.28.

Asda has also confirmed it will increase staff pay by 10% for 115,000 workers in spring.

The pay rise will see the hourly rate at the supermarket rise from £10.10 an hour to £11 in April, then to £11.11 an hour in July.
