Colin Farrell has said that he is "grateful" for the support that his latest film has received, following the news that he's received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

The nominations for this year's Academy Awards were announced earlier today (January 24), ahead of the annual awards ceremony being held in Los Angeles on March 12.

Irish talent led the way in the nominations, with recognition in major categories including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Martin McDonagh 's The Banshees Of Inisherin was one of the top films to be recognised, with nine nominations. It was beaten only by Everything Everywhere All At Once with 11.

Colin is nominated for Best Actor, marking his first time in the category. He's up against the likes of Bill Nighy, 73, and Paul Mescal, 26 - both also nominated for the first time!

It continues his successful awards season run, with him having been nominated for both a Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild award for his performance in the film.
