At least one person has died and five others are injured after a knifeman went on a stabbing rampage in Germany, according to local media.

The attack took place in the spa town of Bad Langensalza, reportedly following a row between a barbershop owner and one of their employees.

The exact number of injuries has not been confirmed by local authorities but reports say as many as five people were wounded.

Local cops are still at the scene investigating the exact circumstances of the reported knife assault.

They first responded to alerts at around 5pm local time in the Unstrut-Hainich district.

One victim reportedly died from his injuries despite efforts to save him.

Roads have been shut as part of the police probe.

According to local newspaper Thüringer Allgemeine, a dispute broke out between a worker and the boss of a barbershop on Augustinerplatz.

The employee allegedly told the manager he wanted to open his own shop before the stabbing took place, the report claims.

The deceased man is believed to have died on his way to hospital.

He reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries to his neck and lungs because of the stabbing.

Police arrested one suspect following the attack.

Some of the five wounded victims were reportedly injured by pepper spray, reports claim.

Bad Langensalza’s mayor, Matthias Reinz, said: “It saddens me that such an act occurred in Bad Langensalza. It’s not a pleasant thing.

“But it shows that brutality has long since arrived in smaller towns as well, and is no longer just a big-city phenomenon.

“The act was perpetrated by two groups with a migration background. Nevertheless, I urge calm and avoid prejudgment.”
