Man killed in bus 'hit and run' as driver arrested after failing to stop

A 40-year-old man has died after being hit by a bus in a horror 'hit and run', while the driver has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop.

Police were called to a hospital in Hounslow, West London, at 9.20pm after the victim was admitted suffering serious injuries which he died from shortly after.

The man was hit by a bus in Hounslow on Cranford Lane, at the junction with Armytage Road, at around 7.19pm that same night.

The identity of the man is known to the police and his family are being supported by specialist officers.

The bus driver, 59, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene. He has since been released on police bail.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit want to hear from anyone who might have been driving in the area and caught dash cam footage, or those who might have witnessed the incident.

Louise Cheeseman, Transport for London's Director of Buses, said: "Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the man who was tragically killed following a collision with a bus in Hounslow on Saturday 21 January.

"We're determined to ensure that nobody is killed or seriously injured on the transport network as part of our Vision Zero goal.

"TfL and the bus operator Abellio London are assisting the police with their investigation."
