Tottenham ’s newly-crowned record goalscorer Harry Kane took a phone call from an emotional Antonio Conte after breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record against Manchester City.

The England captain headed into the clash with Pep Guardiola ’s men level with the Spurs icon. It did not take long for him to break the record having found himself in the perfect place to take advantage of lax play from the visitors.

His cool finish put him onto 267 strikes for the North London side in all competitions, whilst he has also became only the third man to chalk-up 200 goals in the Premier League after Newcastle and Manchester United icons Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney. The occasion was marked in earnest by Spurs who displayed a special message on big screens, whilst Kane was also at the heart of an on-pitch interview following the final whistle.

In a more private setting, Kane also fielded an emotional phone call from Spurs boss Conte - the Italian absent as he continues his recovery from surgery to remove his gall bladder. He was handed a phone by one of Conte’s assistants and, in what is a huge mark of Kane’s character, immediately asked how his manager was.

After the former Chelsea and Inter Milan schemer confirmed that he was recovering well, attention immediately turned to the striker’s achievement. “You make me proud,” Conte said.

Kane was left with a huge smile on his face as the pair continued to discuss his strike and Tottenham ’s victory against Man City. Elsewhere, Spurs assistant Cristian Stellini divulged more details of the chat, whilst hailing the striker following his achievement.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It was a tough week and we have to give a great compliment to all the players and the staff. It was a tough week because we lost Antonio this week, hopefully he’ll be back next week.

“He’ll be back happy now. I spoke to him on the phone just now and he said congratulations to the team and especially Harry.

“Harry Kane, in his DNA, he has football,” Stellini added. “He understands football in every moment. He can play in any position. He is a GOAT in this league, in this sport. He is a great example.”

Kane is now only second to Man City sensation Erling Haaland in the race to be named at the Premier League’s top goalscorer at the end of the campaign. He has 17 Premier League goals to his name in what has been a sensational season from a personal point of view.

The 29-year-old will certainly be aiming to continue his excellent form for the remainder of the campaign as Spurs aim to secure a place back in the Champions League. The North London side currently sit fifth and just one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle - albeit Eddie Howe’s side having a game in-hand.

Kane will no doubt be attempting to extend his advantage at the top of Spurs’ goalscoring charts in his next outing against favourite opponents Leicester. The former Foxes’ loanee has scored 20 goals in 19 career appearances against the Midlands side.
