Sue Cleaver has branded being in her 50s the happiest time of her life so far.

The Coronation Street actress, 59, has spent almost two decades on the cobbled streets of Weatherfield and recently spent time in the Australian jungle on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here.

And she's now claimed her current mood is the best she's ever felt. Despite claiming getting the Corrie job in 2000 was "such a happy moment" the star says it is actually now which she finds herself most happy.

The actress best known for her portrayal of Eileen Grimshaw on the street explained she's looking forward to the next 10 years, hoping that things can continue to get better.

Speaking to Prima, she said: "My 50s have been the happiest decade of my life. I’m happy with me and where I am, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the next decade brings.

"Then again, if it doesn’t bring anything, I’m just going to have to make something happen myself. Since doing I’m A Celeb, my eyes have been opened to all these new experiences. Now, I’m just thinking, 'Right, what’s my next challenge?'"

She also opened up on her life to date, explaining how she revealed during her time on I'm A Celeb that she was adopted as a child.

She admitted that it was a situation she never expected, before discussing her life with her new-found half sisters. "There have been so many extraordinary coincidences with my half-sisters, I don’t think anyone would believe the whole story," she said.

"Helen Worth [Corrie’s Gail] is godmother to one of my half-sisters, while my other half sister’s husband, John Bowe, also appeared in Coronation Street. We’re all bizarrely interconnected."

Following her departure from the jungle in November last year, Sue appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss her experience in camp, including her adoption revelation.

She revealed she had never previously spoken about it out of respect for everyone, but confessed she felt so comfortable on the show.

She added that her family had given their blessing, and explained during the interview: "[They said] say whatever you feel, what you're happy to feel, so I did".

The March 2023 issue of Prima is now on sale.
