Benefit fraud allegations land Bernard and Deborah Greville in Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court

Allegations of benefit fraud have landed two Watford residents in the dock.Bernard and Deborah Greville, both of Romilly Drive, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (December 2) for an initial hearing.

Both have been charged with dishonestly making a false statement to obtain a benefit, advantage, or payment.

Court documents state that they "dishonestly made a statement or representation" to the Department of Work and Pensions.

The documents add that this was reportedly to obtain a benefit under social security legislation.

The defendants, both aged 59, are said to have committed the offense across a four-year period from April 2020 to August 2024.

Neither have entered a plea, with the case being adjourned until a hearing on December 16.

This will take place at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, with pleas scheduled to be made.

According to the Sentencing Council, the offense carries a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted.
