China slams Canadian, Australian warships for “provocation” in Taiwan strait
China has criticized the passage of Canadian and Australian naval vessels through the Taiwan Strait, describing it as a deliberate provocation that threatens regional security. The People’s Liberation Army stated that its forces tracked and warned the ships during their passage.
Taiwan’s defence ministry confirmed it monitored the movement and deployed assets to maintain stability.
Beijing insists the strait falls under its jurisdiction, while Taiwan and its allies, including the U.S., view it as international waters and emphasize freedom of navigation.
The incident occurs amid increasing Chinese military pressure on Taiwan, highlighted by frequent drills around the island. Ottawa and Canberra have yet to respond to Beijing’s criticism, according to Reuters.
