Brazil and Inter Milan legend Lucio is in intensive care being treated for burns to various parts of his body. Lucio, 47, is being treated at a hospital in Brasilia after suffering the injuries on Thursday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the accident took place at home. In a statement, the hospital said that the former defender was ’stable, conscious and under constant observation.’

The extent and cause of Lucio’s injuries haven’t been disclosed. The ex-centre-back retired from football in 2019, having spent the last six years of his career in Brazil.

Lucio is most famous for marshalling Inter’s defence and winning an historic treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010. He was also part of the Brazil side that won the 2002 World Cup.

In addition, he won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich. Lucio won a total of 18 trophies after making his name at Internacional in his homeland.

He was signed by Bayer Leverkusen in 2001 and helped them reach Champions League in his first season. Leverkusen were beaten 2-1 in the final at Hampden Park, Glasgow, with Zinedine Zidane scoring an iconic goal for opponents Real Madrid.
