Toni Cole, 29, was sentenced to 12 months in jail after it was discovered that she had been involved in a series of intimate encounters with a prisoner at HMP Five Wells in Northamptonshire.

A female prison warden has been locked up for 12 months after sending over 4,000 steamy texts during a forbidden affair with an inmate.

Toni Cole, aged 29, got entangled in a passionate fling with a prisoner while on duty at HMP Five Wells, the state-of-the-art "super-prison" in Northamptonshire. A court heard how she fired off 4,369 messages and participated in 18 video calls with the con, frequently indulging in "contact which was sexualised or flirtatious". The audacious officer kissed him, sat on his lap and even promised to tip him off about cell raids at the Category C prison.

Their relationship took place between December 9, 2022, and January 25, 2023 before it was rumbled by prison bosses.

Cole, from Wellingborough, Northants, pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office at Northampton Crown Court. On Thursday (Feb 13) she was jailed for a year by Judge David Herbert KC and and ordered to pay a surcharge of £187.

Cole is not the first female officer from the Wellingborough jail to be convicted of misconduct in public office.

Last summer, trainee officer Rachel Stanton, 31, received a suspended jail term after romping with a prisoner.

The affair between the mum-of-five and armed robber Edwin Poole was uncovered when officers dug up three intimate photographs and a sexy love letter in his cell.

They were also caught on CCTV going into a prison storeroom for an hour of "intimacy".

In December 2024, it was revealed that a third female prison officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested and suspended for similar misconduct.

The £253m G4S-operated prison has been under the microscope following inspectors’ grave concerns about staff safety, drug issues and food shortages.

It comes as a senior prison officer has admitted having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate at HMP Pentonville. Tracy Boateng, 26, is said to have “ abused the public’s trust” during her relationship with Vincent Ojo between February 25 and April 19 last year.

She appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday (February 13) where she admitted to a single charge of misconduct in a public office. Evidence against the prison officer includes body worn camera footage showing interactions between her and Ojo, the court heard.
