Gang ’ambushes’ Birmingham hospital A&E and raids ambulance after a 16-year-old is stabbed

A 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed on Pretoria Road in Bordesley Green yesterday afternoon, prior to a disturbance occurring at a Birmingham hospital.

A 16-year-old boy has been left with serious injuries after he was stabbed in broad daylight before disorder broke out at a hospital - with police now probing both incidents which they believe to be linked.

West Midlands Police were called to Pretoria Road in Bordesly Green at around 3.30pm yesterday to reports a teen had been stabbed. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition, while a manhunt has been launched for the knifeman.

Cops are also investigating disorder that broke out at a Birmingham hospital, believed to be Heartlands Hospital, which happened later in the night. Police said the trouble involved a number of people and is believed to be linked to the stabbing. According to a witness, Heartlands Hospital went into "lockdown" after a group "ambushed" A&E and an ambulance was "raided with a patient inside."

In a statement shared with BirminghamLive, a police spokesman said: "We are investigating after a teenager was stabbed in Bordesley Green, Birmingham yesterday (Saturday). We were called to reports of a stabbing in Pretoria Road at around 3.30pm.

"A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition. An investigation is underway to establish the details. We are also investigating reports of disorder involving a number of people at a Birmingham hospital which is believed to be linked to the stabbing incident.

Officers taped off Pretoria Road in the immediate aftermath of yesterday’s incident and remained at the scene today. No arrests have been made and police inquiries are continuing.

According to the publication, a witness claimed Heartlands Hospital was forced to go into "lockdown" after a group "ambushed" the A&E department, and that an ambulance was also "raided with a patient inside."
