The UK ticket holder is believed to have won the third biggest National Lottery win of all time, with it being described as a "truly incredible night" for the winner

A UK ticket-holder has won the £177m EuroMillions jackpot, becoming the third biggest National Lottery winner of all time.

Players have been urged to check their tickets to see if they have bagged the huge cash sum. The winning numbers were 07, 11, 25, 31, and 40 with Lucky Stars 09, 12.

Andy Carter, senior winners adviser at operator Allwyn, said: “Wow, it has been a truly incredible night for a single UK ticket-holder who has scooped tonight’s jaw-dropping £177 million EuroMillions jackpot. The win has landed them a spot on The National Lottery’s Rich List, as they have become the third biggest National Lottery winner of all time.

“What a wonderful win right before Christmas, and we cannot wait to pay out this amazing prize. Players are urged to check their tickets and to give us a call if they think they are tonight’s lucky winner.”

The National Lottery recently celebrated its 30th birthday by hitting a huge £50 billion fundraising goal for good causes. Since starting on November 19, 1994, it has managed to raise more than £30 million each week for good causes.

Major moments of its funding over the past three decades include opening the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the Eden Project and the release of This Is England. The biggest ever win was scooped by a lucky Brit who - perhaps unsurprisingly - wished to remain anonymous.

They scooped the record EuroMillions jackpot of £195 million in July 2022 – the biggest National Lottery win of all time and making them richer than Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles. The National Lottery has also funded the making of more than 600 films which have won some 551 awards, including 16 Oscars, 128 BAFTAS and 34 Cannes awards.
