Tributes have poured in after a six-year-old girl was killed in a catastrophic house fire.

The victim of the blaze on Bedale Drive, Leicester, has now been named locally as Chamiah Brindley.

She was found dead inside the property after a fire broke out in a home in the residential area at about 4am yesterday.

Other people at the home were also taken to hospital ‘as a precaution’, the police said.

Chamiah’s heartbroken uncle, who lives opposite the family home, said the fire happened in her sister’s house, MailOnline reports.

He said: ‘My little niece died, we’ve lost her in the fire.’

‘It’s my sister’s house, what’s happened is awful. I’m too upset to speak.’

A young boy standing next to him in the garden claimed he was ‘there at the time.’

‘I got out. I was lucky,’ he added.

Chamiah was reportedly one of ten children.

Friends and neighbours left floral tributes at the tragic scene, with one bouquet saying: ‘Rest in peace, beautiful little girl, tragically taken too soon.’

A neighbour, who declined to give their name, told the Sun: ‘It is a very tight knit community and many of us know the little girl who has died, Chamiah Brindley.

‘She’s from a big loving family with lots of brothers and sisters and went to the nearby primary school.

‘She’s a beautiful little girl and adored by her mum. My heart goes out to them all. It is a terrible thing to happen.’

A 14-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released on bail.

Enquiries are ongoing and police said detectives are keeping ‘an open mind’ and are working with fire officials to establish the cause of the fire.

Detective Inspector Michael Chandler said: ‘This is an extremely tragic incident in which a person has sadly lost their life.’

‘Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are keeping an open mind as to what caused the fire.

‘A dedicated team is carrying out enquiries and we are working closely with the fire service to fully establish what has happened and how it has happened.

‘Specially trained officers are also continuing to provide full support to the family of the deceased.

‘I understand this incident will have caused distress and concern in the community and officers remain in the area to offer support and reassurance. They are there for you so please do speak with them.’

Chandler said police are speaking with the victim’s family and locals in the area and asked anyone with information to contact police.
