Putin unsettled after Ukraine conducts aerial bombardment on Moscow

Vladimir Putin has awoken to one of the largest bombardments on Moscow and other parts of Russia after 30 months of bloodshed.

Ukraine unleashed 144 drones, targeting three airports in the capital and lighting up residential buildings in the region of Moscow, during what the Kremlin called a ‘terrorist attack supported by the UK and US’.

Debris from aircraft damaged at least two high-rise buildings in the Ramenskoye district in the early hours of Tuesday, setting several flats on fire.

A 46-year-old woman was killed and three people were injured, governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Telegram.

He added that 43 people were evacuated to temporary accommodation centres.

Footage circulating on social media shows flames bursting out of windows of a multi-story residential bloc.

Russia’s SHOT and Baza Telegram channels, which have close links o the security services, posted videos of the fires lighting up the sky.

Three of Moscow’s four airports suffered disruptions for almost seven hours as drones swarmed in the skies.

A total of 48 flights at Domodedovo, Zhukovo and Vnukovo airports were cancelled amid the attack.

Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the southwestern Bryansk region that borders Ukraine, said air defence units destroyed 59 drones over the region overnight.

Several drones were also downed in Russia’s Lipetsk region, several hundred miles south of Moscow, the region’s governor Igor Artamonov, said on Telegram.

No injuries or serious damage were reported in both regions.

As a result, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the Ukrainian government of becoming an ‘international terror group’ supported by the US and UK.

Ukraine has expanded its attacks on Russia over the past year, targeting regions increasingly deeper inside the territory.

Its goal is to cripple the Kremlin’s war often by striking military targets across the border.
