Far-right extremists set up literal ‘race checkpoints’ during the riots that have swept through Middlesbrough.

Footage taken from TikTok shows a mob stopping cars to check if the drivers are ‘white and English’ before letting them through.

Hundreds of protesters had gathered outside the Jamia Masjid Al-Madinah in the town on Sunday afternoon.

Some of them stood in the middle of the road, in front of cars, shouting, ‘Are you white’ and ‘Are you English’. Another is heard replying, ‘Yes, he is’.

The video shows two cars, which are trying to speed away from the scene, nearly crashing into each other, prompting one of the agitators to whine, ‘I was almost run over’.

Middlesbrough became the epicentre of much violence on Sunday, and at least 43 people have been arrested as a result.

Mobs pushed burning wheelie bins at a line of police officers on Ayresome Street and a car was set alight on Parliament Road.

A picture shows the vehicle flipped over, with flames engulfing its charred armour.

One man was seen shouting a racial slur and another telling police: ‘It’s our f****** country.’

They were also filmed attacking homes at random, smashing windows with bricks and stones.

The windows of a Teesside University building were also shattered during the riot.

Cleveland Police said on Sunday evening that the ‘violent crowds’ had dispersed, but officers remained in the area throughout the night.
