England manager Gareth Southgate needs to confirm his squad to UEFA by 11pm on Friday night, but he seems to have nailed down his decision on his final 26-man travelling party

Gareth Southgate appears to have decided on his Euro 2024 squad, with Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish the big names to miss out on this summer’s showpiece tournament.

The Three Lions manager needs to confirm his squad to UEFA by 11pm on Friday night, but he seems to have nailed down his decision on his final 26-man travelling party. He initially named a 33-man training squad for the friendlies with Bosnia and Iceland.

As well as Grealish and Maguire, James Maddison, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite are also expected to miss out.

Maddison and Jones were the first two names made public. The Tottenham playmaker confirmed he had not made the squad in a heartfelt post on social media and both he and Jones have now left the England camp.

Quansah and Trafford were both surprise inclusions in Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad. Dean Henderson will head to Germany as England’s third-choice goalkeeper while Quansah, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Liverpool, will also head home.

Branthwaite also enjoyed a fine season for Everton but the decision to axe both Grealish and Maguire has proven to be the biggest shock ahead of this summer’s tournament.

Grealish has struggled for form and fitness for Manchester City this year but has been a regular part of Southgate’s squads in recent years.
