Tragic teen managed to give cops a vital clue in his dying breaths

THIS is the chilling moment a teen was chased down and stabbed to death after being lured to a park in a "honeytrap" killing.

Lyrico Steede, 17, was knifed nearly 20 times following a "date" with a 15-year-old girl in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire.

In his dying breath, the tragic teen managed to tell police he had been stabbed by four youths.

But officers struggled to find a motive or even the location where Lyrico had been attacked - leading to a mammoth investigation.

A new Channel 4 series Murder Case: Digital Detectives has revealed how cops were able to piece together clues to solve the brutal murder using CCTV and phone records.

The horror unfolded in December 2019 when stricken Lyrico collapsed in front of a family home with multiple knife wounds.

His mum Keishaye Steede tells the show: "There was a knock on the door, it’s the police. The first thing they ask me is where is my son.

"That’s when they tell me he’s been stabbed. I couldn’t breathe. Nothing inside of me was believing what he was saying.

"Lyrico was my only boy…that was my baby."

Thanks to the teen’s "dying declaration", Nottingham Police knew they had four assailants to hunt down but with a lack of evidence the case proved difficult.

Digital forensic experts were drafted in to help and eventually a breakthrough came when the name of a 15-year-old girl was given to officers.

The teen was brought in as a witness and confirmed she had been with Lyrico on the night he was killed.

She claimed they had been chatting on Snapchat and agreed to a date in a park where they were ambushed by four thugs who stole her iPad - causing her and Lyrico to flee.

Using the location, officers were able to find "gold dust" CCTV that not only showed the teen being chased through the park but also proved innocent Lyrico hadn’t started a fight that night.

But it also raised more questions - including how the killers knew he would be in the park at that time - leading police to establish the attack wasn’t random and Lyrico was meant to die.

Detective Chief Inspector Hayley Williams, who led the investigation, was then staggered to find further footage of the teen girl on a bus with the iPad she claimed was stolen.

The video shows her ducking down and hiding between the seats when a police car drives past.

As the case continued, officers went to local taxi firms to ask if any had picked up four boys on the night Lyrico was murdered.

Luckily, one came back to confirm they had driven a group to Sneinton, which is around five miles away from where the teen died.

As the taxi had been cleaned, there was no DNA but the driver had kept a mobile phone that one of the boys left in his car.

Pieces of the puzzle

Forensic experts managed to establish there was DNA and fingerprints on the old Nokia but hit another dead end as it didn’t match anyone on the police database.

Officers however were able to find a "digital footprint" for Kasharn Campbell, whose name was given to them following a media appeal.

His phone had tried to "shake hands" with cell towers and public wi-fi spots, with the data revealing he had travelled in the same direction as the taxi driver.

The teen girl, who can’t be named, was also found to have been in contact with Campbell - suggesting Lyrico had been lured to his death by her.

DCI Williams said: "Girl 1 is very significant...it couldn’t happen without her - that’s the honeytrap bit."

Police were then given two more names - Remell Miller-Campbell and Christian Jameson.

The pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place when officers tracked CCTV along the taxi’s route and found footage of the two suspects in a shop that showed Jameson on the phone at 6.42pm.

This timestamp matched a call made by a mobile in the taxi as it travelled from Sneinton to Bulwell - placing him in the park on the night of the murder.

But the real smoking gun came while Jameson was in custody when police found a phone hidden up his backside.

The mobile showed not only Google searches about Lyrico’s murder, but also a number for the Nokia that was found in the taxi for another teen - the fourth suspect.

Lured to his death

He was charged with murder alongside the teen girl, Jameson, Miller-Campbell and Campbell.

Jurors at their trial were told a long-running feud over social media between two groups had led to Lyrico’s death.

The girl had been tasked with luring him to the park where he was chased for 600 metres - one-and-a-half times around an Olympic size running track.

Lyrico tripped and fell over before being stabbed 18 times - including six times on the face - in a frenzied attack.

Kasharn Campbell and Christian Jameson were jailed for life for 20 years and 16 years respectively for murder.

The fourth attacker - a 17-year-old boy - and Remmell Miller-Campbell, 18, were found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter and jailed for a total of 16 years.

The teen girl who set the trap was handed a six-year sentence for manslaughter.

Although they are behind bars, for Lyrico’s mum the horror continues as she is repeatedly tormented by her son’s final moments.

She tells the show: "He always reassured me when he was out he was safe.

"I was just thinking about my son...how it felt when he ran, what sort of thoughts were in his mind."
