Mark Tannahill, 38, has been chased out of his home in Crosshouse, East Ayrshire, after he was found guilty of two charges including the assault of a newborn baby

A sick thug who left a newborn baby girl with broken ribs and a fractured skull has been chased out of his home after an angry mob gathered.

Mark Tannahill, 38, subjected the tot to sickening physical abuse and awaits sentencing for two counts of assault. He was removed from his residence in Crosshouse, East Ayrshire, this week after an angry crowd gathered outside the property.

Police were called after the disturbance and helped moved Tannahill for his own safety, it is understood. Despite his conviction earlier this month, it’s said Tannahill, known locally as the "hot dog man," still brazenly went about his own business and would frequently visit the local shop to buy hot dogs.

And a source told Daily Record the presence of Tannahill was starting to cause fear and alarm in the community, with parents frightened that the beast was walking amongst them.

"He was just continuing his life as if nothing has happened, with not a care in the world. He was still working and everyday he was going in and out of the Spar shop to buy hotdogs," the source said.

"He’s known as the hotdog man and everyone knew who he was, people were starting to feel really uncomfortable that he was still in the village. A lot of people started to get really worried and fearful of him, they worried about vulnerable people and children being near him. A large group gathered outside his house on Monday, they were all shouting ‘beast’. When the police turned up and took him away they were all cheering."

Speaking in reference to the disturbance outside his home in Crosshouse, around three miles west of Kilmarnock, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, we attended a report of a crowd gathered outside an address in Thornton Avenue, Crosshouse, Kilmarnock. Officers engaged with the crowd and they later dispersed."

Tannahill will appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in April for sentencing. The court had heard the thug carried out a three-month reign of terror on the baby, which left the tiny tot with broken ribs and a fractured skull.

The poor girl, who cannot be named to protect her identity, was horrifically abused after her mum tragically died from cancer in August 2021, just eight weeks after giving birth. The baby’s grandmother stepped in after noticing bruising on face of the tot and recalled seeing signs of injury at her daughter’s own funeral.
