Winner of historic $1.7BN lotto draw named 5 months after 2nd largest prize ever
The winner of the historic $1.7billion Powerball lottery jackpot has been revealed - five months after the second-largest ever prize draw was made.
Lottery officials have today revealed that the winner is a group headed by a Californian man. Theodorus Struyck is the only one named and said to be representing a group who bought the ticket.
The ticket they purchased from Midway Market in the Frazier Park neighbourhood of Kern County cashed in for a whopping $1.765 billion after the prize was missed in 35 sequences.
The family-owned business, Midway Market, sold the ticket in October 2023 and received a $1 million bonus for selling the ticket.

The ticket was purchased from Midway Market in the Frazier Park (Facebook/Midway Market and Liquor)Nidal Khalil, the store's co-owner, told CW affiliate KTLA- TV: “That’s the most exciting news ever (to) happen to Frazier Park.
Harjinder K. Shergill Chima, the California Lottery Director said: “Announcing big wins like this gives all of our players the chance to hope and dream that they could be next.
“But it also gives us an opportunity to shine the spotlight on our terrific mission, which is to generate additional, supplemental funding for public education in California. So, it’s students of all ages across the state, who win every day thanks to our players, our retail partners who sell these fun games, and our hard-working staff here at the Lottery. The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since December 8, 2023, after two winners in Michigan won a $842 million jackpot, lottery officials said and it is now the eighth-largest jackpot in history. The last time the Powerball jackpot was won was January 1, 2024. .
Meanwhile a lottery winner from North Carolina who bagged a whopping $878million ( £694,577,020) jackpot , it has emerged.
The woman randomly decided to take a "scenic drive" when she spotted a billion-dollar jackpot sign at the KC Mart in the city of Simpsonville on October 23, 2018. It was revealed that she let a store clerk pick her numbers and let another customer go in front of her before she purchased the ticket.
"After checking her ticket the morning after the drawing, she was in complete shock and disbelief. She stared motionless at the ticket for what felt like hours, then came the jumping and screams of joy," her lawyer, Jason Kurland told .
The current Mega Millions run, which has been going for more than three months, has helped California Lottery raise an estimated $59.9 million for public schools.
