Liverpool have been drawn against Atalanta and West Ham will face Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Liverpool kept Jurgen Klopp's hopes of winning four trophies in his final season alive by smashing Sparta Prague 11-2 on aggregate in the round-of-16, while West Ham crushed German side Freiburg 5-0 on Thursday to overturn a 1-0 defeat in the first leg. There wasn't such luck for Brighton, as they could only muster a 1-0 victory at home to Roma, who were already leading 4-0.

Rangers also crashed out, losing to Benfica at Ibrox after grinding out an impressive 2-2 draw last week. As well as Italian duo AC Milan and Atalanta, French giants Marseille and Bundesliga leaders Leverkusen also made it through, setting up an exciting quarter-final draw which has provided four awesome ties to look forward to ahead of the final in Dublin.

Klopp vs Alonso in Dublin?

What a final we've potentially got our hands after Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen were drawn on opposite paths.

That'd be Jurgen Klopp's final match in charge of the Reds and could also be Xabi Alonso's last hurrah before heading to Anfield to take the German's place.

David Moyes and West Ham will have something to say about that, though, as they can dump Leverkusen out and reach the semi-finals instead of the Bundesliga leaders.

Serie A side Atalanta, meanwhile, will also be hoping to surprise Liverpool.

Round-up of the rest

AC Milan booked their place in the last eight with a 7-3 aggregate thumping of Slavia Prague, while French giants Marseille also made it through, despite a 3-1 loss away to Villarreal last night.

Atalanta rounded out the quarter-finalists and made it three Italians teams in the draw, having beaten Sporting Lisbon 3-2 on aggregate by following up their first-leg draw with a home win.

Rangers' European dream dashed

Two years after making the Europa League final, there'll be no opportunity for Rangers to make amends this time around.

Following a positive 2-2 draw in Libson last Thursday, Philippe Clement's men were beaten 1-0 after Rafa Silva punished them on the break.

Benfica go marching on with the likes of Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi in their side.

Brighton beaten - but not on the night

Brighton winning 1-0 against Roma would usually go down as a historic moment for the Seagulls, but sadly for them it marked the end of their Europa League campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi's men failed to overturn a humiliating 4-0 loss in Rome and Danny Welbeck's first-half goal last night was only a consolation in the grand scheme of things.

Who'll await Daniele De Rossi's side?

Moyes makes history

How's this for a stat?

After last night's 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg, West Ham have now won more European games in three years under David Moyes (26) than they previously had in their entire history (25).

They've also made the quarter-finals of either the Europa or Conference League in all three of those seasons.

Alonso's Anfield audition?

Imagine this draw...

With Bayer Leverkusen still unbeaten in all competitions this season and on for a treble which includes the Bundesliga title, Xabi Alonso has the chance to face Liverpool before potentially taking the job from Jurgen Klopp.

Since leaving Anfield in 2009 to join Real Madrid, Alonso - whose side edged 10-man Qarabag with two injury-time goals last night - hasn't played or managed against the Reds, who beat Sparta Prague comfortably in both legs.
