Oprah shows off slimmed-down figure as she accepts award amid weight loss drama
Oprah Winfrey showed off her slimmed-down figure as she accepted an award amid her ongoing weight loss drama.
The 70-year-old talk show icon made headlines in December last year when she unveiled her staggering weight loss while attending the premiere of The Color Purple, and later confessed she had been taking a “weight loss medication” to help maintain her figure. In a candid interview with People, Oprah revealed she was overjoyed that there was “redemption” for her and others with the weight loss drug. “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself,” she shared.
On Thursday, Oprah proudly showcased her weight loss at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, as she accepted the GLAAD Vanguard Award at the ceremony. Wearing a stunning black and purple floor-length blazer dress that highlighted her petite frame, she looked glowing and relaxed as she took to the stage with her glossy hair teased into bouncy waves.

Oprah was honoured for her commitment to promoting LGBTQ rights throughout her decades long career, and was presented with the award by long-time friends Chilli Pepper and Paolo Presta. Her appearance at the star-studded ceremony came as she faced backlash over her upcoming documentary about weight loss drugs, titled An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution. The media icon, who recently stepped down from the board of directors at Weight Watchers, will speak to people who have used medication like Ozempic and Wegovy, as well as medical professionals about the risk associated with the drugs.
Oprah Winfrey snubs Harry and Meghan as expert claims 'the tide has turned'“It is a very personal topic for me, and for the hundreds of millions of people impacted around the globe who have for years struggled with weight and obesity,” she said about the upcoming documentary. Oprah candidly spoke about taking the weight loss medication during a panel on Oprah Daily last year, and said the drug has transformed her self-worth, and her approach to food.
“There’s a part of me that feels … I’ve got to do it the hard way. I’ve got to keep climbing the mountains. I've got to keep suffering. I’ve got to do that because otherwise I somehow cheated myself,” she explained. “I realised I’d been blaming myself all these years for being overweight, and I have a predisposition that no amount of willpower is going to control.”
Oprah has struggled for years with her fluctuating weight, and chose to be honest with her fans after speculation mounted following her weight loss. “The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she told People in December.
