The GoFundMe fundraiser for Missouri teen Kaylee Gain has smashed the quarter of a million dollar mark after shocking footage of the girl's brutal assault horrified people across the world.

Kaylee, 15, was brutally attacked and suffered severe brain damage when her head was smashed against the concrete multiple times during a fight at high school. She is seen twitching on the ground in the upsetting footage from the fight. The other teenage girl fled, leaving Kaylee to convulse until emergency services arrived.

The teen's family said she remains in critical condition, but the full extent of her injuries will remain unclear until she wakes up. As of now, doctors say she's suffering from severe brain bleeding and swelling.

William Ackman, billionaire hedge fund investor who's considered to be one of the world's wealthiest men, made a hefty $10k(£7.8k) donation to the teen's GoFundMe account, which was created to offset her medical expenses as well as support her grieving family.

A spokesperson for the hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P. confirmed the donation to TheMirror.com.

The fundraiser garnered more than $213,000 (£167,109) in donations in just two days. The family said the world's "overwhelming response" to Kaylee's GoFundMe has brought them to tears.

The altercation broke out in the vicinity of Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis on Friday at 2:30 p.m. A video of the incident was circulated on social media, showing another girl repeatedly punching Kaylee, sending her falling to the ground, and then slamming her head into the sidewalk.

The girl's family shared on the fundraising page: "She was left alone on the ground to convulse before EMTs arrived on the scene. She was admitted to one of the local hospitals in Saint Louis with a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage."

"She has major brain bleeding and swelling and is in critical condition. Kaylee is fighting hard to stay alive and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle for Kaylee and her family."

"We will not know the extent of the brain damage that has occurred until she wakes up but the path to recovery will be extremely hard on the family, not only mentally but financially."

Missouri's Attorney General, Andrew Bailey, spoke out about the event, stating that he wanted the assailant to be tried as an adult as a result of her actions. The assailant, also a 15-year-old girl, is currently being held behind bars as prosecutors figure out the charges.

But an opponent of Bailey's says it should be a matter for juvenile courts. Democratic congressional candidate and St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell said the incident is "heartbreaking," but the girl who smashed Kaylee's head into the cement is not an adult yet.

"This is sickening & so difficult to watch. In MO, by law our office @stlcopa has no jurisdiction. This is a Juvenile court matter, unless it is certified...& by law, certification is not our decision either. We pray the victim makes a full recovery. This is just heartbreaking," Bell said on X.

Kaylee is still in the hospital with a skull fracture, frontal lobe damage, major brain bleeding and swelling, and is in critical condition. Her family says she's "fighting" to stay with them.

The viciousness of the attack captured on camera has prompted an outpouring of generous donations - and conservative talk show hosts co-opting the conversation. Missouri AG Bailey told Newsmax that the school district promoted "radical DEI programs" in 2021 "in place of school safety," which he feels resulted in this assault.

The demographics of that school are overwhelmingly Black, as it is located in a primarily Black area. Administrators have not specified what led to the group of teens assaulting Kaylee, but condemned bullying in a statement released after the video went viral.

"In other words, they are more in favour of racial divisiveness than in having school resource officers on their campuses," said Bailey to Newsmax.

"In August of 2021, it was announced that the school was requiring the uniformed police officers who were in the schools to take the school district's DEI training and the police agencies refused. They declined to do so. So, the schools booted them off campus."

The fight took place on Norgate and Claudine drive. It was blocks away from Hazelwood East High School, in an area where school security has no jurisdiction.

A report from Blaze Media quoted a friend of Kaylee's saying that the youngster had been encouraged to "fight back" after "being bullied prior to the horrific attack," but details of any investigations are being kept under wraps due to the young ages of those involved.
