Peter Crouch and Steve Sidwell have named who they believe to be the top five strikers playing in the Premier League at the moment.

Both spent plenty of time in the top division and played with some of the league's best ever strikers. They can count the likes of Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba among their teammates.

Of course, such rankings are always controversial but Crouch may be better qualified than most. The 43-year-old scored 106 Premier League goals across stints with Liverpool, Tottenham, Portsmouth, Stoke, Aston Villa and Southampton.

Speaking on the Peter Crouch Podcast channel, Crouch and Sidwell placed Ivan Toney at number five. The Brentford striker returned from his ban and has four goals in nine appearances as he looks to secure the Bees' Premier League survival.

One place ahead of that was on-fire Premier League star Ollie Watkins. The Aston Villa ace has contributed to more goals than anyone else in the Premier League this season and bagged 16 goals along the way.

A hint of controversy arrived with Son Heung-min placed third. The South Korean international has not been a stranger to starting as a true forward since Harry Kane's departure last summer.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all is to see Erling Haaland not take top spot. The Norway international leads the scoring charts this term after earning last season's golden boot and 54 goals in 58 appearance.

It was Mo Salah that took spot however with Crouch suggesting the Egyptian's 'longevity' provided him with the edge. The duo named some talented stars but their selections did not go down entirely well.

A number of comments took umbridge with Salah being identified as a striker. Ben Younger said on Youtube: "Top 5 Premier League Strikers - names 3 strikers".

Another user, Kinggrave noted: "Just because Salah can work upfront in FIFA doesn't make him a striker", while Oppsggfccchh posited: "If Salah is a striker so was Arjen Robben".

Others were aghast that Newcastle United's Alexander Isak was absent from the list. Craig Lambert commented: "Wow!! No isak? The Swedish Henry!"

A further user laughed at the Swede's omission with a simple: "No Isak hahaha" and another said: "No Isak is actually mental."
