Liverpool will have to overcome final day fixture curse to win Premier League
Liverpool have been handed a dreaded fixture curse as they look to beat Manchester City and Arsenal to the Premier League title.
The Reds are only behind the Gunners on goal difference after being held to a draw by City at Anfield last week. They are desperate to win the title in what is Jurgen Klopp's final season as manager.
They have only been able to win the league once since Klopp arrived as manager back in 2015. They have finished twice in that time, as well as third once and fourth twice, with Klopp hoping to return to the top this time around.
To do that though, they will have to overcome a curse that has lingered over teams ever since 2018. That curse takes the form of the team who Liverpool will play on the final day of the season.
The Reds are scheduled to host Wolves at Anfield on 19 May, but that may spark concern among the more suspicious members of the team. Four of the last five teams to play Wolves on the final day of the season have failed to win the title.
Chelsea complete record-breaking Enzo Fernandez transfer after deadline day rushThe curse started in 2018/2019 when Liverpool beat Wolves 2-0 but finished second, a point behind City. The following year, Chelsea defeated the Midlands side but ended up fourth.
Next it was Manchester United's turn, as they won 2-1 at Molineux, though finished second, 12 points adrift of champions City. The curse swung back Liverpool's way in 2022, when a dominant 3-1 was not enough to prevent them finishing second, a point off City.

And finally last year, Arsenal smashed Wolves 5-0 at the Emirates, but also finished second, five points behind the champions. Following Sunday's draw, Klopp is doing his best to keep his team focused.
"I don’t think I have ever been involved in a title race with three teams. Germany was usually Bayern, but in one year we became champions it was Leverkusen. And here, there was only one team who became champions usually and we stepped in between one time," he said.
"I literally don’t know if it changes something. We have 10 games to play, so obviously nothing is decided. There are plenty of games. The next one in the league is Brighton at home, traditionally it is not our favourite opponent.
"It is not that we think, ‘Thank God it’s Brighton.’ They play really good football and that is a tough game for us. At one point we play Tottenham here, we have to go to Aston Villa and stuff like this. City play Arsenal, play Tottenham and Aston Villa as well.
"So many teams are fighting, so much quality. The only thing I need for the moment, I would prefer to have 30 points between us and all the other things, but the realistic thing is are we really in that race from a performance point of view? Today I saw a team that is in the right position, so now let’s see what we can do."
