They were the original reality TV family, captivating viewers with their outrageous behaviour long before the Kardashians hit our screens. In the 1990s Celebrity Big Brother star Sharon Osbourne managed husband and rockstar Ozzy Osbourne out in LA, also overseeing the careers of their children Jack, Kelly and Aimee.

Aimee declined to appear in the family's MTV show but the rest went on to become household names in The Osbournes, which began in 2002 and won a Primetime Emmy the same year. These memorable moments might help explain why...

The folk feud

The Osbournes were at the end of their tether with their noisy folk-singing neighbours and teenager Jack had failed to sort out the issue by playing loud death metal music in return. Cue Sharon stepping in to throw a huge ham over the fence. The neighbours called the cops, who merely warned the star not to waste good food.

Ozzy can't work the TV

We all empathised with the clueless rockstar when he unsuccessfully tried to use his TV remote control. The Osbournes' mansion had been fully equipped with the latest high tech equipment but despite a demonstration from a TV engineer, dad Ozzy remained firmly stuck on the weather channel.

"You’ve got to have computer knowledge to turn the TV on and off," he complained to viewers. "I’m pressing one button and the shower starts. What is this?"

Rockstars don't do bubbles

Black Sabbath star Ozzy was planning a gig and he didn't take kindly to Sharon's plan to add bubbles as a special effect. "Bubbles!" moaned the rocker. "Oh, come on, Sharon! I’m f****** Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of f****** Darkness."

'It's my birthday!"

Kelly turned 18 during season two, jumping in a private jet to Las Vegas with her family and friends to celebrate the milestone. Despite enjoying a dream weekend for any teen she spent a lot of it moaning about her brother Jack and infamously wailing: "It's my birthday!"

The overbearing sister

The youngest Osbourne sister was furious big sis Aimee was interfering in her life, booking her appointments with a dentist and gynaecologist as well as sorting out her new car. "My teeth, my car, my vagina, my business," she told her dad. Ozzy sympathised and offered the following typically sage advice: "All you have to do is say: 'f**k off' when the vagina doctor calls."

Kelly vs Christina

Christina Aguilera was a huge pop star in the '90s and she was a firm enemy of Kelly's, with Kelly criticising Christina's music and the singer calling her fat in return. The Genie In A Bottle star then upped the ante by putting Kelly's face on a dartboard and threw darts at it at the MTV Awards in Europe.

Protective mum Sharon called the dartboard gesture "a bit much" before Jack went onto dance with Christina which went down like a lead balloon with his sister. "When you hate someone, I hate someone," she told him. "You just wanted to say that you danced with Christina Aguilera."

Sharon beats cancer

The X Factor judge was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, with the cameras following her every step of the way including into hospital for lifesaving surgery. Sharon beat the disease and linked up with the American Cancer Society to urge people to: "Make your bottom a top priority".
