Ben White has become the latest Arsenal player to agree a new long-term contract in the latest good news for the Premier League leaders.

Mikel Arteta’s team are top with 10 games to go and reached the Champions League last eight for the first time since 2010 with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Porto. Now White, who would have entered the final two years of his previous deal this summer, has signed a new four-deal until 2028 with the option of a further 12 months.

He will get a big hike in his current £80,000-a-week wage to join Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli who have all agreed new contracts in excess of £150,00-a-week over the last year.

“I think when those sort of players are getting signed, it shows there is a real ambition about the club and it is something I am loving being a part of,” White said.

"I have been on loan three times, I have been places for a year. I think this is the first time I’ve actually settled and known I am not going anywhere in the summer. Being here is unbelievable.”

White, 26, joined from Brighton for £50m in July 2021 and has established himself as Arsenal ’s first-choice right-back in Arteta’s side. And the former Brighton and Leeds defender claimed there is much more to come from the young squad. “Yeah, definitely. I think if you do look at the ages, it’s going to get better,” he said.

Asked about Arteta, White added: “Day to day it is shown how important this club is and how important it is to do the little things right and get the results that we need.” White has won four England caps but has not been picked since coming home early from the Qatar World Cup.

Arteta said: "It’s great news that Ben is committing his future to the club. Ben is a key player for us, a top professional with a winning mentality, and one of the guys who leads by example every day. Ben’s ability, determination and positive attitude are so important, but he is also a great character and human being. We all look forward to continue working with Ben in the coming years."

Arsenal sporting director Edu added: "We are so happy to have completed a new long-term contract with Ben. Since Ben joined us, his contribution and commitment have been of such high quality. Our supporters love him, we love him and we look forward to enjoying Ben’s performances with us for years to come."

The Gunners are still working on contract extensions for Jorginho and Takehiru Tomiyasu.
