How far would you go as a parent to get your child to tidy their room?

Constantly asking your children to keep their rooms tidy can be the bane of your life, and no matter how much begging or bribing, you always find yourself picking items up off their floor.

Now one dad has been branded "manipulative" for his tactics to get his daughter to keep her room clean which which involved him sending her a letter from "the tooth fairy". The letter urged the girl to keep her room clean as the fairy admitted she couldn't visit as the room was too messy.

The letter, posted by the dad on Reddit, came from "100 Castle Lane, Fairyland" and read: "I apologise for the delay in retrieving your teeth. As you are getting older and older, you have fewer and fewer baby teeth to lose, so I am sure each one is important to you. Now, with that said, I must be frank. The state of your room prevented us from performing a midnight retrieval."

The letter went on to tell the little girl the fairy had "several attempts" to get the teeth but had been unsuccessful. It continued: "The first attempt almost resulted in tragedy as one of our agent's shoes got stuck to something icky on the floor. While attempting to free herself, a pile of socks tipped over and nearly suffocated her. All the commotion alerted a large yellow dog and our agent had to abort the mission.

"Attempt number two went even worse than that, with our agent tripping upon entry and spraining her left dorsal wing. Luckily the large yellow dog was snoring and did not hear the fall." The inventive letter then told the girl the fairy had been "forced to perform a very rare daytime retrieval".

It further detailed: "Since it is the nature of tooth fairies to operate at night (moonlight sustains us), diurnal (daytime) tooth fairies are a grumpy sort and protest to most tasks," and concluded: "We do hope this exchange can be performed in the usual manner the next time you have teeth to get rid of. We also know that you have a choice when it comes to tooth disposal and we appreciate the opportunity to meet this need."

The lighthearted lesson divided opinions online, with some parents loving it. One commented: "Omg, I cannot stop laughing. This is brilliant," while another added: "What a clever way to encourage your daughter to keep her room clean." A third said: "This is fantastic!!

"I have a messy kid who I straight up forgot to get the last tooth from. She had to remind me to remind the tooth fairy…. Going to use my own version of this with the next one, thank you for the idea!"

However, others weren't as impressed. One Reddit user wrote: "This gives me so much manipulation ick," and another chimed: "Interesting way to try to manipulate and lie to your children to get them to do what you want."

Another parent slammed the idea and said: "I'm of the radical opinion that not everything needs to be a transaction or a life lesson. Let your daughter have something special without adding shame and guilt to the mix."
