An ex-cop accused of stalking his estranged wife caught her having sex in a car park with her new partner, a court heard.

Gavin Harper, 45, is accused of bugging Stephanie Glyn’s car, taking her phone, hacking into her social media and downloading her Snapchat history following the breakdown of their relationship in 2020. He is also accused of unlawfully wounding Ms Glynn's new partner, inspector Andrew McLullich, after he caught the pair having sex in a Screwfix car park, Liverpool Echo reported. He denies the offences.

Taking the stand at Liverpool Crown Court, Ms Glynn said her ex-husband's obsessive behaviour had taken a devastating toll on her mental health. She said: "I have always suffered with anxiety anyway but now it's through the roof. My anxiety and the last two years, coming back and forth to court, has been horrendous."

"I was confused as to what was happening. I think I went into the kitchen to go and get my work phone, but it wasn't there. So I went out to speak to my ex-husband. He was in the car with the engine on. I think I went to the front initially to speak to him. The window was open.

"I put my arm into the car, trying to get my phone, which I think was in his hand He then put the window up when my arm was still in the car and it went all the way up to where I couldn't remove my arm from the window. I can't remember if I was trying to stop him from moving or trying to grab my phone. He started to drive slowly. I immediately panicked, thinking 'oh my God, my arm's stuck in the car, he's going to drive off'."

The court heard that following the incident, Ms Glynn left the family home for good and moved in with her mother and saw Harper briefly over the Christmas and New Year period to inform him their relationship was over, and to see their dog, Maisie. She became suspicious Harper was following her, and on December 20 she and her new partner, Mr McLullich, searched her car and found a tracking device.

She said: "It had been a little worry in the back of my mind. I had to have a look just to satisfy myself that it wasn't there. I was getting so paranoid that he was following me all the time and checking up on me all the time. I felt I just had to have a look to see if there was anything there. I didn't know what it was at first, when I first saw it. It was on the driver's side of the car, stuck on with duct tape underneath the seat. It looked like a small, black, rectangular box."

She arranged to meet Harper in the car park of McDonald's off Scotland Road, Vauxhall, where she said she confronted him about the device. She said: "He admitted he put it there and couldn't quite see how wrong it was."

At around 11.15pm on February 16 2021, Ms Glynn drove to the car park of Screwfix in Birkenhead, where she had sex with Mr McLullich in the back of his Kia Sportage. She said: "I heard one of the car doors open suddenly and the lights started to come on. I turned around immediately and I saw my ex-husband and I thought 'oh my God, what's he doing here?'. He just started throwing punches right into Andy's face, over and over again. I was just screaming and screaming at him to stop."

After punching Mr McLullich, it is alleged Harper then laid down on the ground and removed something from Ms Glynn's car, believed to be a tracking device. He "scuffled" with Mr McLullich as he tried to take the item from him, and allegedly struck him at least twice over the head with a torch.

Ms Glynn said: "He had a very aggressive look on his face while doing so. I told Andy just leave it, it's not worth it. Andy stepped away and blood was pouring from his head. Blood was pouring down his face and it was dripping onto the floor." The couple then went to Edge Lane police station and reported the incident. Mr McLullich attended A&E and needed six stitches in his head.

The trial continues.
